School Experience Programme - SEP
Spending time in a classroom is the ideal way to strengthen your application for teacher training. School experience gives you the chance to watch lessons and see for yourself what it's really like to be a teacher - and allows you to draw on your own examples in your application and interview.
SEP places are available at St. Monica’s Catholic Teaching School Alliance to those wishing to commence Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in a secondary school subject.
Throughout your placement, you'll have the opportunity to observe teaching and pastoral work and to talk to teachers about day-to-day life in a school. You will see a range of different lessons and age groups being taught. Whilst your experience will primarily focus on observation, you will also have the opportunity to plan and deliver part or all of a lesson. Your time in our school will also include meeting or shadowing a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Applicants for St. Monica’s Initial Teacher Training (ITT) School Direct programme will ideally need to have a minimum of 2 weeks recent and relevant school experience. This can be arranged on an individual basis either before or after applying to the programme.
Attendance options: Part time on a regular basis, e.g. one day per week for several weeks, or whole weeks.
Dates of attendance: By mutual agreement.
Location: St. Monica’s R.C. High School and Sixth Form Centre
