Profile of St. Monica’s R.C. High School and Sixth Form Centre
St. Monica’s is the lead school for our Catholic Teaching School Alliance.
We are an over-subscribed and highly successful voluntary aided 11-18 mixed Catholic Comprehensive with Specialist Language and Applied Learning College status. Our newly built Sixth Form Centre (2011) offers numerous vocational qualifications. Both learning environments are equipped with up to date and state of the art facilities and amenities.
St Monica’s is one of the best Roman Catholic Comprehensives in England. In March 2013 we were awarded our fourth successive ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (“…nothing but the best will do”.) achieving Grade 1 in all four Ofsted areas.
Every pupil is valued equally and encouraged to develop their potential to the full. A sense of shared identity through faith plays a strong and positive role in nurturing the moral and personal growth of our pupils. Jesus Christ is central to our school and our main aim is that everyone can develop their God given talents and gifts to the full, while growing in faith through prayer and service. The Diocesan Inspection 2014 - Section 48 states that St Monica’s “…radiates a call to excellence.”
Teaching and Learning at St Monica’s is at the heart of what we do. We have a long history of support, collaboration and sharing good practice with other schools and colleagues. We also have a strong relationship with both Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester University – numerous student teachers on placement have successfully trained with us.
Our rigorous and comprehensive Management tasks, Work Scrutiny, Performance Management and CPD procedures constantly develop and challenge our teaching staff. This ethos of continued advancement in teaching skills and innovation is correspondingly utilised to enrich and enhance the proficiencies of Initial Teacher Trainees who attend our school.
We are situated in Prestwich, a primary residential area of Bury, fifteen minutes from Manchester city centre. Travel links for local communities and towns (bus and metro-link) are next to the school, with access from the M60 motorway (either junction 17 or 19), both two miles from our school.
