St Monica’s School Magazine, Venture, was established in 2013 by Mrs Shaughnessy and a team of students working as journalists, editors, photographers and graphic designers. Each form group had the task of suggesting possible names for the magazine before a shortlist was drawn up and the student body voted for the best name. The magazine was then aptly launched as Venture since this was a new endeavour for the school.
The original group of students believed that students should have a free voice to communicate issues and provoke debate on matters that were important to them. The magazine presents a range of writing styles from informative sports reports, critical reviews, to
Venture enables students to further develop their literacy skills as they have to submit articles that are technical accurate, as well as being able to communicate effectively with staff and peers in order to conduct interviews, distribute tasks and meet deadlines.
